Hertford, the seat
of Perquimans County, is on Albemarle Sound
nestled on the shores of the meandering
Perquimans River. It is the quintessential
sleepy river town steeped in history, and is
served by State highway 37, just off US highway
17 between Edenton and Elizabeth City. It is
convenient to Norfolk, VA, and Raleigh, NC.
The 55-mile Albemarle Sound, which is also part
of the Intracoastal Waterway, is the largest
freshwater sound in North America. It is a local
favorite recreational fishing ground and popular
place for cruising, sailing and all water
sports.
The
Perquimans River is ideal for boating,
canoeing and kayaking and offers 100+
miles of shoreline. Perquimans County is
an outdoor lover's paradise with
pristine trails and woods, dozens of
peaceful creeks and rivers, and
